Zen to the Nth degree

The waterfall crashed dramatically behind him, drowning out the normal noises of the jungle. From the large fl at rock he perched upon, he felt the occasional larger drop of river water as a slightly colder patter than the rain that had been falling constantly for the last two days. The tableau before him had not changed significantly in those same two days. This was to be his final test, a demonstration to the masters at the monastery that he was their equal. Like all the prior tests he had…See More

Each Moment a Snapshot

Every time he raises his hand to me, he seems to be waiting for the perfect moment to let it fall.  That moment almost always seems to come soon for him.  I cry and struggle and sometimes even dare to fight back, but it always ends the same;  Both of us in tears, mine of pain and his of guilt and both of sorrow.  I put on makeup and covering clothes to hide the bruises, and we both try to forget what happened and move on to happier thoughts.

Thanks for the comment on my poem. I wish I could be all "I'm a genius" about that line - but my name is small. Jay. Oh. Jo. Two letters. Honestly - I was nervous about this piece, so thanks for reading it and commenting so quickly. Cheers, Jo
