I married young; had four daughters young; and they gifted me with six beautiful grandsons and two granddaughters the oldest being 12 and the youngest 6.
Understanding that I had daughters, grandsons were delightful when they were babies and toddlers and now that they're getting older I'm starting to see that "Y" chromosome appear. I'm having a hard time, for instance:
I went to a football game, which is supposed to be tag football, and three of my grandsons were on two…

Gawd, I hate standing in these damn lines. I need fifteen-hundred words for my family this week and I can only afford seven-hundred and twelve. Economy sucks.
My father told me when he was a kid there was a Postal Service and for the price of about $1.00 you could send a pieces of paper with as many words as you wanted anywhere…

Gail sat on the cement walk way in front of the convenience store. She looked at the people walking from the gasoline pumps across the sticky, black tarmac softened by the heat of the midday, Phoenix sun. The trick to not looking like you were a runaway was to keep looking at your watch as though you were waiting for a parent to pick you up. There was no parents, no family that would ever pick fifteen-year-old Gail up and take her to a nice suburban home. She looked back at the glass of…

Good to see you! I do apologize for not getting back to you sooner... my bad!
Thank you for reading and leaving comments on my posts, always appreciated! :)
Hey, I've never heard of autocrit, perhaps I'll check that out!
As far as words you love using.. yeah, I have certain phrases or words (even characters and scenes!) i probably use more than I should. But that's part of the voice, I guess. Truly, the more you write, the more you practice, the more comfortable you will feel with your work. Don't be shy, keep hammering them out and feel good about your creations!

Cheers, and enjoy! --Kristine
Edward Dean said… It's me again, I'm not sure if you read both posts on HoWo Gwen but here are the logistics;
July 17th -18th in Blowing Rock N.C.It is a resort area in the mts. off the Blue Ridge highway. (One of the most scenic spots in the east). It's a stunning retreat. There is a link for the 2 chalets which are over 5000 sq. ft. each. All the b/r's are private with a private or shared bath. Cost is $87.00 per night. There are also motel rooms close by @ $110.00 p/n. Most places in B.R. are very expensive since it is such a high profile area.
If you're flying, the Charlotte airport is the closest and about a 30 mile drive. Two of the people are willing to share their cars if your interested. If you're driving, it's about 750 miles from the Kansas border.
This group comprises writers from two websites, 6 sentences is the other. If there is any other information I can help with let me know. We would love to see you there.

Edward Dean said… Hi Gwen;
The HoWo is a social writers group that gets together every year to communicate face to face and share ideas. We rotate to different parts of the country to try and make it easier for new members. It makes it easier to have extensive conversations and a bit of fun. It is more of an open forum rather than structured lectures.
You can send a note to Gita Smith or Teresa Cortez for more info if you'd like. I'm more of the logistics guy in all of this.
Welcome aboard.
