The Day's Thoughts Linger into Dreams

Stepping over a stuffed purple giraffe, my hand rested on the light switch to my daughter's room.  I could hear her voice, soft and light, "Now I lay me down to sleep…" "Good night little one.  Don't bite the bedbugs.""Daaad," she says, interrupting her prayer.  "You crazy.  It's 'don't let the bedbugs bite you'!""You say toe-maw-toe, kiddo, I say two-morrow-it's-ketchup.  Night night, sweetie. Light's out."  I turned the lights off and plunged her room into darkness."Night night,…See More

On the Way to a Murder

"Today, yes today, I will...go to church."  I said as I drove past St. Agatha's.  I gave the building a quick side glance, on my way down to the wharf. I knew I wasn't going to go to church, hell, hadn't been in over ten years, but it did make me feel better to make the promise.  I might even break out the olive pit rosary my grandfather gave me from his trip to the Holy Land. It wasn't that I don't believe in god.  I guess that should be a capital 'G', but even though I believe, it is hard to…See More

A Touch of Something Magical

The Chief investigator turned to her.  "I'm going into the other room, Carol.  Keep looking in here, see if you can figure out something with those numbers scrawled onto the wall.""OK Chief.  I'll see what I can come up with."She put her hand next to the numbers, the forensic guys had already done their thing, no way for her to contaminate the scene, but she was still leery about touching anything directly.  She read the numbers again.  68, 69...  and then her attention was drawn to her hand.…See More

Where Strength Lies

Something short, while everyone works on something long...

"We can't lower the wards!" Brannon yelled.  "They're the only thing that's protecting us from going crazy!"  He threw his hands up.  "We have enough problems as it is!"
