just thought i would share some thoughts without distracting from things and just get some opinions here.
a quick BTW thanks for the supportive comments folks.
6S and T10 what are some of the major pluses they have that have built the communities?
1 published authors of tremendous talent contributing and actually reading new people as well as commenting.
2. great communities that actually start with respect for all and do not tolerate personal attacks
3. the writing format- great for those who want to grow their writing by learning the hook. if you cant get a agent or publisher hooked in the first 6 to 10 sentances they wont be interested.
(of note I am not published outside 6S or T10 and have no agent but what little research i have done this seems to be a consensus)
4 prompts, challenges as well as the site collections all help to spark when your stuck.
5 site administration- while rob has been quiet for a bit on 6s and blake has been quite involved in other things both obviously care about the sites. I was beyond shocked that blake not only answered questions but was genuinely interested in making sure I understood things and answered questions himself when I joined .
My question is why do I bounce around other websites that are weaker and what makes them wealer?
let me see the very limits of flash that enable a easy read and comment do not allow for development..
The very quality of the published folks can be intimidating. not so much to me as if I am in the mood to write I write.
would like to see something longer featured on another web site but ... well never been shy about my lack of credentials or weaknesses so even if I have a piece I like I do not bother attempting the quality sites most folks announce they are guest writing on.
other sites that I dont care for require you must post up reviews etc to earn credit towards putting your own piece up. people put up a chapter 4 or 7 etc. as a stand alone piece. I do not want to go back to chapter 1 and most times chapter 1 has no hook for me as a reader.
sites tolerate personal attacks , hate writing or seem to become dominated by one contributor who floods everything and gets rave reviews for stuff I regard as pedestrian and lacking creativity.
what would i like to see happen here or a site that would at least draw me in?
Not to be a kiss ass but I am a big fan of blake as a person and site administrator. that small personal touch means a lot to me . folks are talking about a Site with expanded writing on 6s. blake had a point to diluting things by adding another site out there .
he has been busy and I am sure people of talent might not mind helping administer the site here to be more successful. If not complex I would be willing to help in some way.
I would love a site like this where true agents, editors and publishers would commit to just popping in for a q and a once a month in chat AND commit to look at say some popular contest winners or sponsor a contest. etc.
then comment such as " expand a little might be good for a magazine such as x or this could make a good book flesh out a chapter and send it on to me etc."
in this manner it is not "sigh.. another freaking web site wants me to use them as a slush pile" its a limited number of hooks to look at additionally they could also be guest prompters "I rep mysteries , write me a hook that starts with a wreck , a victory etc something I do not see I dont want snoopy and it was a dark and stormy night.when suddenly a shot rang out"
why have you been away like me ? searching and lost confidence?
what can keep you in and productive? what would be a wow! I have to get in on this site for you here?
